First grade
  • We started our "calendario de marzo" and recorded the weather in Spanish during this month. The students are getting very familiar with the weather expressions in Spanish.
  • We finished working on "Los transportes" (Transportation).
  • The students now are able to use their transportation vocabulary very well. They are able to describe the transportation we learned in class. We had so much fun with this topic.
  • We also talked about where each transportation goes: water, air, on the street. They learned how to do patterns. Finally we made a bar graph showing how the students come to school. The bar graph is on display outside of their classrooms.
  • We just started working on "las formas" (shapes). We are now learning the names of the shapes in Spanish and finding them around the classroom.

Second grade

  • We continue talking about the weather during class and working on our "calendario de marzo". This have been helping the students to maintain their weather vocabulary in Spanish.
  • We continued working on Los dinosaurios (Dinosaurs).
  • The students learned the names of certain dinosaurs in Spanish. We had so much fun learning about dinosaurs through games, songs, and reading some books.
  • After learning the vocabulary for dinosaurios. The students were able to describe a specific dinosaur saying its name, color, body parts, and if they eat meat (come carne) or plant (come planta). I was so amazed to see my students using their Spanish to describe a dinosaur.
  • The students drew their favorite dinosaur and wrote some sentences in Spanish about that specific dinosaur. Their work is on display in their classroom walls.
  • We did a bar graph that showing the favorite dinosaur for the class. The bar graph is on display outside of their classroom.
  • We will start working on "las partes del cuerpo" (body parts) after Spring break.

Third grade

  • Third graders have been using their weather vocabulary during class. They have also being writing the date in Spanish on the board for during some classes. They are doing a great job. After break they should receive their "calendario de abril"
  • We worked on "Los meses del año" (Months of the year). The students had so much fun learning the months of the year through games and songs.
  • They asked and answered about their birthdays in Spanish. They interviewed each other in Spanish. We made a bar graph to see which month has more birthdays. They liked this activity very much.
  • We also started learning about "Las mascotas" (pets). The students learned the names of certain pets in Spanish. we had so much using this vocabulary through games. We are now are learning some adjectives and verbs in Spanish so later the students can use them to describe their pets.
  • After break, the students will be bringing a picture of their pets to describe them in class. and then we will work on a fun project.

Fourth and Fifth

  • I was so proud and amazed of my 4th and 5th grade students after I saw their puppet show presentations. They worked very hard and used most of the vocabulary we learned in class. This was a succes because my goal was for them to use the language and they did it! yeah!
  • We continue with the competition to see which class uses more Spanish. This competition will go to the end of april and after that we will have a fiesta for the winner. Who will be the 4th grade winner and the 5th grade winner class?
  • Now, we are reviewing the feeling vocabulary. After break we will continue having fun in Spanish by creating stories in Spanish, acting them out, reading them, writing them, and re-telling them. WOW it is going to be so much fun!

First grade
  • We continue recording our weather during the month of February. Later, we will see our bar graph and see how the weather was during this month.
  • We started working on "Los transportes" (Transportation).
  • The students are learning different transportation in Spanish through games and songs.
  • We also are talking about where each transportation goes: water, air, on the street.
  • During this topic we are also doing patterns and soon we will make a bar graph to see how the students come to school.

Second grade

  • We continue recording our weather during the month of February. Soon we will see our bar graph to know how was the weather during this month.
  • We started working on Los dinosaurios (Dinosaurs).
  • The students are learning the names of certain dinosaurs in Spanish. They are having so much fun learning about dinosaurs through games, songs, and reading some books.
  • We have just learned some vocabulary that helps us describe some of the dinosaurs in Spanish. I was so amazed to see my students using their Spanish to describe a dinosaur.
  • Soon, the students will be drawing their favorite dinosaur and writing some sentences in Spanish about that specific dinosaur.
  • We will continue making a bar graph that will show what is the favorite dinosaur for the class.

Third grade

  • We continue recording our weather during the month of February. Then we will see our bar graph to know how was the weather during this month.
  • The students are now able to write the date in Spanish on the board. They also are able to tell me how the weather looks like. All of this in Spanish. Yeah!
  • We started working on "Los meses del año" (Months of the year). The students are having so much fun learning the months of the year through games and songs.
  • We just started asking and answering when are our birthdays in Spanish. Soon, they will interview some of their classmates about their birthday and we will make a graph bar to see how many students have birthdays on the months of the year.
  • Later we will continue learning about "Las mascotas" (pets).

Fourth and Fifth

  • My students did an awesome job presenting their short conversations in Spanish. I was so amazed of the results.
  • So far, the students have learned three different vocabulary lists. This week we are starting a competition between each grade to see which class uses more Spanish during class. By the ened of the month of April we will know which class is the winner. The prize is a Fiesta.
  • Now, the students are ready to get in groups and start writing their puppet show script in Spanish. They should be ready to present by the week of March 9th.

Lincoln School

First grade
  • We have worked on the calendar and the students learned the days of the week in Spanish.

  • We learned many songs in Spanish and the students loved singing them.
  • In the month of February we will review the calendar and weather. Then we will continue working on transportation.

Second grade

  • We have worked on the calendar and the students learned the days of the week in Spanish.
  • We also learned the weather vocabulary.
  • We learned many songs in Spanish and the students loved singing them.
  • In the month of February, we will review the calendar and weather. Then we will continue working on Dinosaurios.

Third grade

  • We have worked on the calendar and the students learned the days of the week in Spanish.
  • We also learned the weather vocabulary.
  • We learned many songs in Spanish and the students loved singing them.
  • In the month of February we will review the calendar and the weather. Then we will continue working on the months of the year and the students will be able to ask and answer about their birthdays. Later we will learn about pets.

Fourth and Fifth

  • We have been working on classroom commands and the students took a Quiz.
  • We also learned some basic vocabulary in Spanish such as greetings, farewells, some basic questions and answers. Now the students are working on preparing a short dialogue using the vocabulary they know so far.
  • Later, we will be learning more basic phrases in Spanish. After that the students will have to write a script for a puppet show and then present it to the class.
  • We are having so much fun together!

Lincoln Elementary School

I am so happy to be part of the Lincoln Family this year 2009. My students are fantastic and are showing me how much Spanish they know.

Materiales: All the students need a pocket folder

This first week of January we are still getting to know each other and reviewing their previous Spanish vocabulary.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders we are working on the calendar, the days of the week. months of the year, colors, etc. We are also reading some short stories in Spanish and learning new songs.

4th and 5th graders just finished their presentation of their Spanish speaking countries. We will review classroom commands and basic phrases in Spanish.
